Master of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

Photoshop is the world’s most popular photo editing app. A designer will be using photoshop to edit and modify raster/bitmap graphics (aka JPEGs, PNGS and GIFs) for use in your designs—in simpler terms, it uses pixels to make images.

Adobe Illustrator is a vector graphics editor first released in 1987. Vector graphics are not made up of pixels, but instead are made up of paths and can therefore be scaled much more than raster graphics. While Photoshop deals with the latter, Illustrator deals with vectors.

Hands-on InDesign can be an added Advantage.

Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS

HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language, which is the coding language used to put content on a web page and give it structure. That means it’s how you turn a bunch of words into headlines, paragraphs, and footers. And then there’s HTML’s partner, CSS or Cascading Style Sheets. CSS is the code that tells browsers how to format and style HTML for a web page. In other words, it’s what makes all the text and other content look good.

Hands-on UI/UX design

UX and UI design are two different elements of a single consumer experience. UX refers to the user experience, which focuses on how something works and how people interact with it. UI, or user interface, focuses on the look and layout.

Digital Typography

Working as a graphic designer requires you to use fonts and typography. Therefore, you have to learn the basic rules and actual trends of typography. Typography skills also connect closely with visual hierarchy.

Photography

You can take your graphic design skills to a new level by adding your own personal photographs. Learning how to take quality images will be easier for you since you’re already in the visual arts industry.

Soft skills

Some of the soft skills that any designer should possess are Empathy, confidence and decisiveness.
